The first thing that you should be aware of is that there are several different types of lessons that you may choose. Private lessons are perhaps the most traditional, and you will find that with a private tutor there that your mistakes will be corrected before they become habits. They are, however, the priciest options and also the one that needs to be fit into your budget and your time schedule.

On the other hand, you may be more comfortable teaching yourself. For instance, can you learn from books or videos? And do you have the discipline and motivation to get started on your own? Can you set aside a regular time for your learning process and practice? If so, you may be a great candidate for teaching yourself.
